theRevolutionCenter has a section warning about the dangers of Celebratory Gunfire or firing into the air.
The callous disregard to the dangers of celebratory gunfire is just one of the reasons to stop this behavior. Sadly this episode is not the first to have happened, and it will not be the last.
The fatwa that addresses this problem needs to go further. It needs to convince Libyan’s to turn in their weapons. It needs to get everyone on board in realizing that it is not healthy for a society to have so many uncontrolled and untraceable weapons. The war is now over and it is extremely dangerous for the country to remain armed to the teeth. Only the removal of gun ownership from those responsible will solve this problem.
Libya should start immediately by getting guns out of the hands of people who are actually firing their guns in the air. In all likelihood these people should be very easy to find. After that they can work on everyone else. This solution of course is obvious, how it will be implemented…? That is a problem.
Good luck to those whose job will be tackling this issue.
